Each year, 1.8 million people die from diarrheal diseases. That is nearly 4 people every minute! Globally, this is the leading cause of illness and death. What if you could do something to change this statistic?
This Spring, in a remote part of the South Pacific, Photoserve and Give Clean Water are partnering together to make a difference and improve this staggering statistic. While most think of Fiji as a beautiful vacation spot, many Fijians live in poverty, and at least half live without clean water. Give Clean Water’s goal is to provide and install water filters in the homes of Fijian families, so that no matter what type of water they have access to, these families will always have clean water to drink.
As a participant on this trip, you will learn first hand how to assemble water filters and teach families about personal hygiene and the importance of sanitation. Then, partnering with local organizations, you will have the opportunity to go out into the community to assist with the distribution and installation of these filters. By removing all bacteria from the water, these filters give families a chance at a healthy life, free from water borne illnesses.
As visual artists, we will also work to capture the stories of those we serve. We will donate all of the stories we gather, from photos to videos to written accounts, to Give Clean Water to help them further their mission. By telling the stories of the communities they serve, this organization will be able to provide even more families with clean water, working to eradicate disease, illness and even death in these communities. Working alongside Give Clean Water staff, together we will experience this country in a way that we never would otherwise, all the while using our talents to give back in purposeful and life-giving ways.
